The Angel Series was based on a childhood photograph of my mother. I was struck at how much older she looked in the photo compared to her chronological age at the time. Inspired by this image, I made several handmade paper paintings and prints. The handmade paper work began with pigmented pulp. A base painting was created that was then worked with gouache paint and colored pencil to achieve detail and clarity. The result was a colorful, other-worldly homage to my mother when she was a child.
